When family relationships are struggling, the whole household feels it. CCA counselors are trained to help families find their way through difficulty toward something more connected and more stable.

Christian Family Counseling for Every Season of Family Life

Families Are Worth Fighting For

Family relationships are among the most significant we will ever have, and also among the most complex. The same closeness that makes family life a source of deep belonging can also make its conflicts feel particularly difficult to navigate. Some families are dealing with a specific crisis, while others are managing patterns that have been present for years, sometimes across generations, that have gradually made life at home feel more draining than it should.

Family counseling is not about assigning blame or determining who is right. It is about helping the people in a family understand each other more clearly, communicate more honestly, and find a way forward that works for everyone.

Proverbs 11:29 says, “He who brings trouble on his family will inherit only wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise.” This reminds us that dysfunction in a family has real consequences, not just for the individuals involved, but for the whole household. CCA's approach to family therapy takes that seriously.

CCA serves families across more than 90 locations in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, New York, Arkansas, and Kentucky. If your family is in a difficult season, we would be glad to come alongside you.

What Christian Family Therapy Addresses

How CCA Approaches Family Counseling

Family therapy at CCA is structured around helping families identify the patterns that are creating difficulty and develop practical tools for navigating them differently. Our counselors work with families to strengthen communication, address core relational issues, and build toward a more stable and connected home life.

Cognitive Assessment

Family counseling may be appropriate when a family is facing situations such as:

  • Addiction and substance abuse affecting the family
  • Adoption-related adjustment and attachment concerns
  • Adult dependent children and the relational dynamics involved
  • Aging parents and caregiving responsibilities
  • Chronic parent-child conflict
  • Discord with in-laws
  • Domestic violence and its aftermath
  • Incarceration of a parent or child
  • Foster care parenting
  • Severe mental health concerns of a family member
  • Relocation or major transitions
  • Retirement and shifting family roles
  • Sibling rivalry
  • Step-family adjustment issues
  • Ongoing stress and relational demands

This is not an exhaustive list. If your family is navigating something that is not named here, reaching out is still a worthwhile first step.

What CCA Family Therapists Do

CCA's family counselors work to:

  • Provide specific tools and strategies tailored to each family's situation
  • Identify core communication patterns and help families develop healthier ones
  • Help families build a clearer framework for navigating ongoing conflict
  • Work toward reconciling and restoring family relationships where possible

Session Program

Extraordinary Parenting

In addition to individual family counseling, CCA offers the Extraordinary Parenting program, a six-session structured program designed to help parents raise the next generation with confidence, grounded in Christian faith, informed by traditional child-rearing wisdom, and guided by evidence-based psychological principles.
Extraordinary Parenting is available to any parent who wants to invest more intentionally in their approach to raising children. It complements individual family counseling rather than replacing it, and many families find that the two together provide both the repair and practical framework they need.

Frequently Asked Questions

Christian family counseling at CCA is professional family therapy provided by clinicians who are also practicing Christians. It is appropriate for any family navigating relational difficulty, whether that involves parent-child conflict, divorce and co-parenting, blended family adjustment, or broader patterns of dysfunction that have developed over time. You do not need to be at a particular place in your faith to work with us. Our counselors meet families where they are.

Not necessarily. Some family counseling involves the full family unit, while other situations are better addressed with a subset of family members, or with individual sessions running alongside family sessions. The right structure depends on the specific situation and what your counselor recommends. If you are unsure where to start, reaching out for an initial conversation is the best first step.

Yes. CCA counselors are trained to work with co-parenting dynamics, including the communication challenges, boundary questions, and child-related tensions that often arise after separation or divorce. The goal is not to rebuild the marriage but to help both parents work together more effectively for the sake of their children. This is some of the most practically meaningful work family counseling can do.
